Numbers tell you how far a region can grow. Colors tell you which regions cannot touch. Use both to fill the board, one certain move at a time.

Grow a region, fill the board
Start from a colored cell and paint the empty cells next to it to grow its region. The number shows how many more cells to paint, and it goes down with each cell you add. When a region is complete, its number disappears.
Separate regions of the same color cannot share an edge. Fill every empty cell to complete the board. Every puzzle can be solved with logic alone, no guessing required.
Learn the rules, then the strategies
The first tutorial walks through painting, the color rule and the tools. You can return to it from How to play, which also includes strategy explanations and practice puzzles. There is no time limit for solving a board.
Undo takes back a move and can be used as often as you need. A hint takes the board back to just before your first wrong move if you have made a mistake; otherwise it makes the next move for you. Highlight lights up the cells the selected region can reach.
Hints and Highlight have separate stocks. Each refills by one on a day you return, up to five each; missed days do not accumulate refills. Once you enable Highlight for a puzzle, it stays enabled when you return to that puzzle. The tutorials use neither stock.
Come back to a puzzle
Your progress, star ratings and unfinished puzzles are saved on your device. You can leave a puzzle and resume it later, including its Undo history. Browser storage must be available for the game to start.
Progress does not sync between browsers, devices or app editions. Clearing the browser's site data erases its saved progress. A private window generally discards it when the window closes.
Browser and app editions
The browser edition is free to play and has no in-app purchases. In the Android and iOS app editions, Unlimited Highlight is an optional one-time purchase that removes the stock limit for Highlight. It does not change the limit on hints, and no purchase is needed to solve the puzzles.
Purchases do not transfer between Android and iOS or to the browser edition. The comfort and access guide describes Iromino's controls, sound and language settings, and current accessibility limitations.
